Quatrième de couverture

As I move further into my own (fairly recent) graphic novel-noir division career, I find that Will stands with me on every page, every step of the way-less his art than his storytelling intelligence, his atmospherics, his cinematic sequencing-and most of all, his love, his passion for what he was doing, and his never being satisfied to stay for long in one place. I was once Will's assistant ; these days, he assists me. As always, my guide and mentor.
Jules Feiffer. The lasting legacy that Will Eisner (1917-2005) has in sequential art cannot be overstated-he is known as the Champion of the Graphic Novel. His innovative storytelling, layouts, and art on his newspaper series The Spirit (1940-1952) inspired a generation of cartoonists, and his turn toward an acclaimed run of graphic novels, beginning in 1978 with A Contract with God, helped pioneer the form. Among the honors bestowed upon Eisner are the Reuben Award, the Milton Caniff Lifetime Achievement Award, the Yellow Kid Award, and multiple Harvey Awards and Eisner Awards, the latter of which were named in his honor.. This exhibition catalogue includes over 175 images of original artwork, selected from the landmark Will Eisner The Centennial Celebration exhibitions in 2017 at Le Musée de la Bande Dessinée in Angoulême and the Society of Illustrators in New York. Presented in dual English and French text with essays by Eisner's friend and longtime publisher Denis Kitchen, author and comic book historian Paul Gravett, and editor and designer John Lind. Introduction by Jean-Pierre Mercier (scientific adviser, la Cité internationale de la bande dessinée et de l'image)..
